Update

Ran Thursday night and did the normal strength session. Went to the physio the next day for some pretty sobering news. Bone pain in lower shin has regressed since last week. It's weird because I can't feel it at all anymore when I'm walking or running or whatever but I can when Nathan presses on my shin.

Pretty frustrating so running a bit less this week. Also feel like maybe we're making a bigger deal out of this than we should be? Simply because I haven't felt any pain in everyday life for weeks now, but hopefully next time it'll be better and if not then I'm gonna ask for a scan.

Rode 70km Saturday morning with Mahoney then went out for Stoupas' birthday to some bar. Then  got up this morning and rode 50km solo to Mordi and back. University starts again tomorrow.

Another set

6km at training last night. Everything felt great, did some strides mid way through as well. Really looking forward to doing some sessions again.

Back slowly

Ah had a bit of a break from the blog. Couldn't handle talking about solo cycles any longer. Cycled all of last week and went for my first run back last night. Just warmed up with the squad, did a few strides then another lap for 5km all up. Then rode again today. Hopefully I can build back slowly, looking forward to feeling fit again.

Thursday, Friday, Saturday

Thursday

Pretty knackered after a big Wednesday so rode in the evening 30km not pushing too hard. Ended up covering 30.5km in just over an hour.

Friday

Did that same 30km loop but worked harder this time doing it in 56:40. Pretty happy with that to be honest. Then backed up with another 16km in the evening in about 32 mins. Legs felt very heavy.

Saturday

Met up with Will and rode to Mordi and back. Will is a genuine gun, don't know how he does it. Great ride though ended up averaging 31.5km/h for 50k.

Catching up

Right so I've been on the bike the last couple of days and according to the physio I gotta stay on it for another two weeks before it's safe to start building back up in the running. This is just a bit of a catch up for the past 3 days for the rides I've done.

Monday

30km in the morning. Not sure what time I did it in as my bike computer was messing up. Fixed that when I got home and did another 16.5km in the evening in 29:48.

Tuesday

Rode to Mordialloc and home for 50km all up. Had some issues as the screws in my cleat came loose leaving the cleat attached to the pedal with the shoe off of it. Fixed that when I got home and tightened up the bolts.

Wednesday

Got up at 6 to get in a ride before work. Amazing how many people are out riding at that time. Rode along beach road to a 500-600m hill and did 5 reps up it. Quads shot to bits by the end. 43km avg 31.5km/h. Then got out with Dad for 16.5km in 28:12. So much easier when you have someone to ride with. Averaging about 35km/h.

Bit of a mess

Ferny creek was pretty bad. Ankle started hurting when we hit the first hills and kept getting worse. Stopped at Grants and walked it back to the car.

Hills fam

Got myself up and out the door for hills Saturday morning. Ankle was aching slightly but not bad at all. Ended up having a great run. Ran with Jasper and Daniel (?) for the hill session. Felt shit at the start but once I warmed up properly I was okay.

1:11, 1:11, 1:10, 1:10, 1:11, 1:14, 1:12, 1:08

23:00 all up followed by the threshold that has now been introduced. I was spent so Anna just dropped me straight off. 3:40 then a 3:50 followed by lots of lurching about trying to go faster. Jogged it back in for 12.1km all up.

Troubles

Top of my foot pulled up a bit sore during the run last night so cut it a bit short and just covered 9km. First time I've listened to my body properly in years. Ditched strength as well to be honest mostly because I was in a bad mood.

Got out to the physio this morning and apparently it's just looking like an inflamed tendon so lot's of ice and rolling. Tapped around on my shin as well and realised that I'm just about on the edge of my max load. It's not as sore as it was before Christmas which is good, but it's not 100% either. Won't be going too far above 80km a week until my body gets used to it.

Jumped on the bike this arvo for 22km at 32.1km/h. Rolling along nicely.

Anyway had a chat with the parents and decided I'm going to chill on the running front for a while. I'm definitely not getting out enough and I'm stressing way too much about mileage and times and all that. So solution is get out more and not worry about making every single run. I reckon I'll just try and enjoy my life as much as I can while I'm still young and train when I can, but I'm no longer going to let hills get in the way of a big night. I'm becoming very boring now that I think about it so I'm just going to run to enjoy it and not care about how fast. Sure I'll still smash myself in training, but I'm not going to obsess at all.

I feel like if I keep stressing about training when it's not taking me anywhere, I'm going to regret missing out on good times with my mates. I can always start obsessing again once I grow up a bit and have nothing else to do, but right now there's too many good times to be had I reckon. I reckon in year 12, between partying, training and working hard, I had a pretty solid balance so that's what I'm going to find again.

Teams sports brah

So Cor messaged me just before training asking if I could fill in for his cage soccer team after cardio. Did the session then played. Session was same as last Wednesday 8 x 400m w/ 200m jog recovery. Trained with JB, Jasper and Young Beau. Great hit out so much better than last week. No headwind this week but the hill was still lurking meaning that all the odd numbered reps were uphill.

Times were solid but it is hard to get under 70 on the outside.

74, 73, 74, 73, 75, 73, 76, 72

Closed pretty well although Jasp managed to get away from me on the last couple. 12km all up and pretty knackered.

Backing up in soccer was harder than I thought it was going to be. Not used to the accelerashe but held on okay. Once I had momentum I could move alright but getting going was hard after the 4's.  Played pretty well I think, I'll try and get a game as much as I can as long as it doesn't clash. Managed to claim the victory which was nice. I don't have the skill I used to but being stronger and calmer helped. Definitely more defense minded these days. Genuinely love passing the ball backwards, makes you feel like you have so much control when you can comfortable knock it around the defense. About to easy run now then hit the gym. K's will be high this week I reckon.
